Physical Requirements
- Extreme weather conditions: The ability to work in high heat and bitter cold.
- Exposure: The ability to withstand exposure to noise, dust, curing compounds, diesel, gasoline, oil, form release agents, and ready-mix concrete.
- Safety: Entering, exiting, and climbing vehicles and equipment; ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and the like; using feet, legs, hands, and arms; entering, exiting, and climbing in and out of trucks and equipment, with safety requiring three points of contact.
- Pushing/pulling/twisting: Use of the entire body in pushing, pulling, turning, twisting, and flexing the torso forward, to the right, and to the left.
- Reaching: Forward flexion and/or abduction of hands and arms greater than a 90° range of motion from the shoulder.
- Lifting/carrying: Lifting and carrying tools, materials, and equipment weighing more than 90 lbs.
- Standing/walking: Safety in negotiating standing and walking on uneven ground in varying weather conditions.
- Bending/stooping/crouching/squatting: Bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
- Kneeling: Bending legs at the knees to come to rest on one or both knees.
- Crawling: Ability to move about on hands, knees, and feet under trucks and equipment.
- Sitting: Seated positions in a cab may vary depending on the specific job. Twisting of the upper back/thoracic area to view surrounding areas and other moving vehicles/equipment occurs constantly.
- Repetitive movements: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, picking, and pinching, utilizing the full use of arms and hands.
- Overall good health is necessary for the physical demands of these positions. Expectations include, but are not limited to: no hernias, no diagnosed heart conditions, no sleep apnea, no high blood pressure (180/110), no diabetes (if treatment requires injections during work hours), vision in both eyes, and the use of all limbs.
